I decided I just couldn't wait until after the New Year to start using my blog, so here it is. I have been wanting to change my blog for a long, long time and I felt that start of 2010 was the best time. The new format gives me more flexibility and really showcases my images in a better way.

Thank you everyone for your support over the last year. It's been a wonderful 2009 and I am so excited for all of the big and little changes that 2010 will bring!!

So how do you get two 18-month olds and two 3-year olds to sit still long enough to get their picture taken? Well if you know how, then please share it with me! Stephanie & Fred Engagement Session

This past Saturday I meet up with one of my wonderful May couples Stephanie & Fred. We were blessed with one of the last nice days of the fall. We found some great spots around the beautiful campus of Aquinas College and then finished up in East Town where their little dog Libby meet up with us to get a few family shots. For my birthday this year I got to spend the day with my favorite new person, Finn. I have been waiting for a long time to take his pictures. This past winter his momma Lindsey, my best friend, called and asked me if I was interested in taking pictures in the fall of her little baby!!! Of course I was super excited and finally 9 months later I finally got the opportunity. He already is like a little man and it cracks me up. I couldn't have asked for a better birthday, especially when he fell asleep on my chest while watching MSU football, what a great day :) Can't wait for Finn to meet his new best girlfriend, only a couple more months!! Love you!! Aunt Gen

Sienna Christmas Session

While I was visiting my sister in the Detroit area last week, I took some time to take pictures of little Sienna. Sienna is the hilarious daughter of Holly, my sister's best friend. Really I should say she is my sister's best girlfriend. She calls my sister, "My Shannon", and when I asked her if she was "My Shannon" (being my sister in all), she got very mad and said "No!! She was hers". :) Sienna will be two in February, but you would think the girl was four by how much she talks. Everything she says is hilarious and she remembers everything. If she wasn't laughing during the session she was eating a cookie or a sucker, and oh does this girl love her cookies. Just say the word cookie and she jumps up and down and starts clapping her hands together and laughs and says, cookie, cookie, cookie. How can you say No to that!

I think this was one of my most favorite kids sessions. I couldn't stop laughing while I was editing the pictures, I love her face when she laughs and all of her expressions, they are just too cute!! When I left their house she gave me a big hug and a kiss and told me that she loved me!!! This girl really knows how to get to your heart. I can't wait for the next time I get to hang out with her. I just hope my little girl is as cute and funny as Sienna is. Thanks Sienna and Holly for an awesome morning, I had a great time!!

Lexi and Megan Quick Peak

Thought I would share a few pictures that I took this past Sunday before I take off for Detroit for a few days.

The first is little Lexi, a sassy almost 3-year old. She is the daughter of an old co-worker of mine and after hearing so much about her from her mom Tammy, I couldn't wait to meet her! She is absolutely adorable and there are many more great pictures to come.

My second shoot of the day was with Megan. Megan and Bill got married a few months ago and I thought it would be fun to do a bridal shoot with her. I meet Megan earlier this spring when I tagged along on their engagement session with their wedding photographer Phrene. Megan was so much fun to work with and is a dream to photograph, I mean look at how gorgeous she is!! More on Megan soon too!!

The Hindenach Family

The other weekend I meet the Hindenach family at John Ball Park for a quick family session. Nicole and I have been friends since high school and I love any opportunity I have to see her kids. Nicole only wanted to get one picture, a family picture, after that it was fair game. Luke, Oliver and Sophia kept me moving the whole time, they are fast and don't sit still for long.
Thanks for asking me to shoot your family again. Can't wait to meet your new addition, the new puppy!!

This is Oliver and his fabulous smile. He is very smart and creative. Nicole told me a story about how he climbed on top of her dresser and then jumped onto the curtains like a cat and slide down them. Apparently he thought he was a fireman and the curtains were his fireman pole! How cute is that!!

Kati & Chris Married!

Earlier last month was the beautiful wedding of Kati & Chris. Their ceremony was held at the beautiful Townsend Park in Cannonsburg at the adorable stone open shelter. Just like the weeding the week before, the rain drops were coming down, but once again it stopped in time for pictures. After getting pictures in the park we all loaded up on the bus and headed downtown to take more pictures of Kati & Chris. Their reception was held at a very cool loft space downtown called Mosaic Space, a perfect location to end a fabulous day. I had so much fun with Kati and Chris, they are a great couple that kept me laughing all day. Thank you for a great day and congratulations!!

Kati is another very talented bride who made her own bouquets! Seriously awesome bridesmaids bouquet.

Kati found her dress just a few months before the wedding!! A beautiful choice that really showed off her features, especially those arms!! I am sooo jealous.

Kati's mom hung mason jars with candles in the front area for the ceremony, which gave a romantic feeling to the ceremony.

Kati and her dad have a very special bond and I love this group of pictures and how he is making sure she looks perfect before she walks down the aisle.

The sides of the covered patio drops off about 5 feet. Not easy to get a shot when you are only 5'4. Luckily there were some rocks to balance on to get a few shots of the ceremony.

Christy and Chris Wedding

I had my fingers crossed as I approached the hotel for Christy and Chris' wedding. The forecast said 30% chance of rain, but it was sprinkling. But luckily it stopped raining before we left the hotel for Qual Ridge Golf Club for their outdoor ceremony. I had talked with Christy many times about the many details she had planned and WOW, the whole day was amazing. You could feel the love that Christy and Chris have for each other and their families. This was a very special day and I am honored that Christy and Chris chose me to be a part of it. Thank you for such a wonderful day and the bag of goodies from the candy buffet!! I wish you both a lifetime of laughter and happiness.

THE BEST CANDY BUFFET EVER!!! Christy said she bought 50+ lbs of candy! I think I ate about 3 lbs that night alone! It was awesome :)

BrieLynn & Rob Engagement Preview

The other weekend I meet with BrieLynn and Rob for their engagement session. I was so excited to finally meet these two. They live in Madison, WI and were home for a family wedding so we finally got a chance to get together. They are such a cute couple and BrieLynn had some really great ideas for shots (like the balloons, so cute!). I can't wait for their wedding next summer in Kalamazoo, I know it's going to be awesome!

Last weekend was the beautiful wedding of Kati & Chris. The day started with some rain, but the rain clouds cleared out after the ceremony and we were left with a beautiful day. Last weekend Ashley and I headed to Quail Ridge Golf Course for the wedding of Christy and Chris. When we meet a few months ago they didn't want to see eachother before hand. After talking over the pros and cons of seeing eachother before hand, they decided to do it. The "first look" is my favorite part of the whole day, and below you can see why. Carla & Alex Wedding

So where have I been? Well crazy busy. Things have been a bit nutty in the last few months. I started a new job in August, which was something that I wasn't planning on doing, I but it was the right time. Plus some bigger news, I'm pregnant and due in mid-April. So dealing with the extreme fatigue and nausea has really set a lot of my editing back. A big thank you to all of my clients for being so patient with me over the last 3 months.

Now onto a long overdue preview from Carla and Alex's wedding. The location at Mangiamo's was perfect for their intimate afternoon wedding and reception. Alex's sister and brother-in-law surprised them with a beautiful song that they performed together!! I had a blast spending the afternoon downtown with Carla and Alex, despite the random shower in the middle of getting pictures, the day was perfect. Mashauna Senior Session

I know, I have been slacking big time on my blog. It's been a crazy busy last couple of weeks. I started a new job early in August and was in Louisville this past weekend for my husband's Ironman competition. I am hoping that life will slow down soon, but I have a feeling it's not going to.

Chloe Senior Session Part 2

The other weekend I had the absolute pleasure of meeting Rachel and her younger sister Becca for Rachel's senior session. I have been dying to shoot a session at these train tracks by my house and Rachel was up for trying them out (woot, woot)! Maren & Mike Wedding

When I meet with Mike and Maren earlier this year we talked about the details of their wedding at Thornapple Pointe Golf Club. After hearing about their colors of yellow, black and white, I knew it was going to be beautiful. The ceremony was very personal and heartfelt. The love that they have for each other is so strong and was very evident that day. Mike asked me if I got any pictures of him crying during the ceremony and I nicely said no (which was a lie), and his response was, well you must not have taken a single picture during the ceremony because I was crying the whole time, and he was :) (sorry Mike) Although it wasn't sunny like Maren was hoping for, the dark and crazy clouds made from some gorgeous pictures and great lighting. Their reception was tons of fun, full of dancing, shots and lots of laughter. Thank you Maren and Mike for asking me to be a part of your special day. Ashley and I had tons of fun! Congrats and enjoy the warm Florida weather.

After promising for a several weeks, I finally have my new wedding website up and running! I am also very proud and excited to launch my new logo. I feel like this logo better reflects my style and my personality. A big huge thank you to Kristen Carlson of K. Holly Photography who designed my logo. In a previous post I showed a peak of my logo in yellow, but after much consideration, green is my color and more fitting for me. So check out my new website, I hope you like it!!!

Chloe Senior Session Part 1

A couple weeks ago I heard from a mother that said that her daughter, Chloe, had looked at many websites and didn't like anything she saw. And then they found mine and Chloe loved it and wanted to book with me right away!!! That has to be one of the BEST compliments I have ever received. I meet Chloe and her mother Jane for our session last Friday and as soon as I saw Chloe pull out the leopard print shoes, I knew this was going to be a fun shoot. Chloe has the most amazing smile and gives some killer looks. Although it was sprinkling on us, it didn't stop Chloe from rocking it, oh and that girl can rock it. Chloe was awesome to work with. She was willing to do anything I asked, like walk out on the railroad bridge with no fear, as I crept from one plank to the next very scared. Thank you Chloe and Jane for a great session. Part 2 will be next week, for the straight hair session :)

Mike & Maren Sneak Peak

Sometimes you meet people and you know instantly that you will be friends. That is how I felt when I meet Mike and Maren earlier this spring for their engagement session. They will always be special to me not just because they are fabulous people, but because they were the first clients to book a wedding! Keith & Eva Wedding

About a month and a half ago I received an email from a fellow photographer asking if I would be willing to help another photographer out who wasn't able to shoot a wedding. Absolutely! I just felt bad for the other photographer and the couple. I talked with Keith over the phone to discuss their wedding day. Eva and I talked over email multiple times and I knew that they were going to be a fun couple to work with, oh and they were. I traveled up to Mount Pleasant to the beautiful campus of Central Michigan University for their wedding. They were married right in front of the CMU seal under the shade of a beautiful tree. I didn't get to meet them until minutes before they saw each other for the first time, but that didn't matter, they were so easy going. As Eva walked up to me I noticed that she had no shoes on and I asked her if she was going barefoot and she's like "yup". I LOVE IT!! A barefoot bride! She literally went the whole day without shoes! Now that's my kind of bride. The whole day was filled with these amazing little touches that meant so much to Eva and Keith. Keith's cousin officiated the wedding, they had their closest friends stand up for them, she wore her grandmother’s earrings and her diamond was also a family heirloom. I had an amazing time with Keith & Eva and their family and friends. Thank you so much Keith & Eva for choosing me to photograph your day, I know I am not who you originally planned, but I think you will be really happy. Also a huge thank you to my sister Shannon who drove up from Detroit to help me.

Lindsey's Baby Shower

Even though I am 30 (ugh, so old), it still is weird to see my friends pregnant and having kids. It seems like we were in high school just a couple years ago. Sooner or later we all have to grow up and my best friend Lindsey decided she was ready. I've gotten pretty good at guessing why people are calling me, and a few months ago, I knew the second I answered the phone what I was going to hear. Yup, Lindsey was pregnant!! Lindsey has always wanted to be a mom and I know she is going to be an awesome one. She has so much love to give and is so caring and generous. When we were younger we used to come up with cute baby names that we liked and would fight about who would get them. Well, I guess Lindsey won that one. So anyway, here are some pictures from the shower that her mother threw her last week. I had tons of fun seeing Lindsey, her family and friends and can't wait to see the baby. Only a 8 more weeks!!

Yana and Brannon Wedding

The other weekend I was lucky enough to assist Cindy of The Open Shutter at the wedding of Yana and Brannon. We were blessed with a gorgeous June day with the sun shinning and an amazing blue sky. They were married at Shadowland pavilion at the beach in St. Joseph. I don't think I have ever seen a more beautiful ceremony site. The pavilion was covered in hot pick fabric and gorgeous orchids decorated the huppa and isle. Every detail was perfectly planned with the assistance of Jessica of Stella Event Design. Jessica and her team were amazing and extremely freindly, I highly recommened her. The events of the day were rercored by the super talented Aaron from Captured Productions. Check out his blog for an awesome video trailer from the day. Thank Cindy for asking me to join you, it was an absolute pleasure.

Eva & Keith Sneak Peak

Over the weekend I drove up to Central Michigan University for the wedding of Eva & Keith. It was a beautiful ceremony under the trees on campus and a fun reception to follow. More to come in the following days from their spectacular wedding.

Amy & Zeb Wedding

On Saturday, June 20 Amy and Zeb were married in a beautiful ceremony that was officiated by Amy's grandfather at Vos Chapel at Kuyper College . Amy decided to forgo the florist and made her bouquets herself, which were gorgeous and really popped against the awesome JCrew bridesmaids dresses, which I was drueling over. The reception was held at the Johsnon Park enclosed picinic shelter. The park made for some beautfil backdrops and the building is absolutely adorable with beautiful dark wood and my favorite, a wrap around porch. Both Amy and Zeb and their families are very loving people, who were great to work with and made us feel very welcomed, Amy's mother even gave me a hug when I left! There is nothing that I love more than families that make you feel special and appreciate all of your work. Thank you Amy and Zeb for choosing me to photograph your day, Ashley and I had a wonderful time.

Today was the first day of two amazing beginnings. The first was the marriage of Amy & Zeb, who were married in a beautiful ceremony at Kuyper College today. If you have been reading my blog for a while, you know that back in March I took some pictures for my brother's campaign for President for Western Michigan University Student Association. After three elections, a couple of appeals, and a lot of hard work, Nate and Janine were finally named President and Vice President of the WSA. They decided to inaugurate them during the WMU day at the Capital, which is a day to raise awareness for the programs at Western Michigan. The whole family, even my aunt Kathy and Uncle Scott, came down for the event. After the inauguration, we headed inside the capital building to take a tour. This was my first visit to the capital and it was gorgeous, I love the architecture. Contratulations Nate and Janine on a well fought campaign. I wish you both tons of success during this coming school year!

8 years ago I went on spring break with my best friend, Lindsey, her younger sister, Lauren, and some of her friends. One of those friends was Charlie, a cute younger guy, who showed up in a t-shirt that read "real men wear belts", it had a picture of a tool belt on it (nice I know). Who would of thought that on that spring break trip a relationship would begin. I sure didn't. But 6 years later I married that guy, and now it's 2 years later, but it feels like it was just yesterday that we were laying by the pool in Florida with our friends. Happy Anniversary Charlie. I am looking forward to many more years of laughter and fun!

Traverse City and Bayshore Marathon

Over Memorial Weekend, Charlie and I went to Traverse City so he could run in the Bayshore Half Marathon. We meet up with some of his friends from the Run Gazelle running group to run one of the prettiest courses around. For those non-runners, a half marathon is 13.1 miles, and a full is 26.2. Yes that is basically running from our house to the beach at Grand Haven. Crazy as it sounds, it's actually fun, just ask these guys. Congratulations everyone on a great race. Thanks for a fun weekend!

Julie & Moses Wedding May2, 2009

~Once again I was able to shoot a wedding with Phrene, and this time her friend Brooke came along too to shoot. We headed down to Dearborn to shoot the wedding of Julie and Moses. The second I meet both of them, I knew it was going to be an awesome day. Julie is the sweetest girl in the world, very elegant and gentle. Moses is hilarious, he is funny without even trying, and full of surprises. It was hard to keep the tears back when they first saw each other, you could see and feel the love the two have for each other. The long journey to this day has made it that more perfect. I had an absolute blast assisting at their wedding. I wish every couple was as cool and calm as these too were. Congratulations on your wedding Julie and Moses. Thank you for letting me be a part of your special day. I hope you had fun in Hawaii!~

Changes are coming!

When I first designed my logo last fall, I wanted something that wasn't too complicated. Over the last few months I have felt like my logo doesn't describe me or my style. So I have decided to change it. Even though I am not booking weddings every weekend, things have really taken off in the last few months. This year alone I have 5 weddings! For 2010 I have one booked and two tentative. I am so blessed to have all of these wonderful couples that have put their trust and faith in me and my ability. I decided that now is the time to step up my business. Next month I will be launching my new wedding website, new packages, my new logo and a new blog. I am excited to start this next chapter in my career and can't wait for you all to see it! Thank you for your support and have an awesome summer!

Spring is here and so is my new lens!! When I got home on Wednesday, I was greeted with big brown box on my door step. I ripped open the box to find my new canon 70-200 f4L lens. I can't wait to use my lens this weekend at a wedding in Ann Arbor (check back for pictures in a few weeks from that event). Photobooth Fun

You might of noticed that I am posting a bit this past week, that is because I have decided to buckle down and post at least three times a week. So today I thought I would share some pictures from two photobooth companies. The first two were taken with my friend Carly at a Michigan Wedding and Event Professionals get together. As you can see in the first picture, we weren't really ready for the shot, but that is half the fun. You can get some really funny pictures when you aren't expecting the camera to snap.

The second time around we knew what to expect, but that still doesn't mean that we're going to look good. I recommend to any bride to spend the extra money to have a photo booth company at your wedding. They help to capture the pictures that us photographers usually do not have the opportunity to get. ~That's right 4 boys under the age of 3, what was I thinking. I spent Saturday morning at Sandra's house with her two boys and her 2 nephews, getting Christmas pictures for Grandma. It took a little while to figure how to get the older two to stop moving long enough to get a picture, trains and popcorn were the magic tools, hey whatever works. The Hindenachs

~Wednesday I met with the Hindenachs: Shane, Nicole, Luke, Oliver and Sophia (the cutest little girl on earth!). Nicole and I have been good friends since high school, so I was very excited to have the opportunity to hang out with her family. Soon after arriving, I quickly figured out why there are no ornaments on the tree as I watched her boys trying to climb up it to get what few pine cones were in it. The kids are hilarious and NEVER stop moving, which makes taking pictures a little difficult. Although they kept me on my toes, I was able to get some fun photos. Thank you for letting me come over!
